Bob Woodruff Park Plano TX features 9.9 miles of concrete nature trails that connect two adjacent parks encompassing over 1,100 acres. It has several public facilities including pavilions with cooking grills, playgrounds, a sand volleyball court, an amphitheater, a recreation center, and a dog park.

1. History
In addition to the many community amenities, Bob Woodruff Park offers miles of hiking and biking trails, a lake for fishing, and a playground for the kids. The quaint cemetery in the northern portion of the park, where monuments for some of Plano’s earliest settlers rest (yes, even Plano has a historic cemetery), is another must-see.
The north section of the park also houses the sand volleyball courts and multi-use athletic courts and is adjacent to Oak Grove Park. The south section of the park includes Armstrong Middle School and Dooley Elementary and is home to a quincentennial bur oak.
Alliance Data volunteers have helped to plant trees throughout the park. These trees serve as a shade for the walking and running trails, absorb stormwater runoff, and help reduce erosion along Rowlett Creek.
2. Dog Park
Dogs are high-energy pets that need plenty of room to run and play. That’s why Plano has a number of dog parks for owners to visit with their furry friends.
The dog park at Bob Woodruff Park features a double-gated, fenced 7-acre area with separate areas for large and small dogs. It also includes a central shade structure, low-level safety lighting throughout the plaza and parking lot, and water stations for both humans and dogs.
The park also has a sedentary dog area for dogs that are older or recovering from surgery. In addition, a variety of other amenities are provided including benches, pet waste pick-up stations, and dog-washing stations. Learn more about Plano here.
3. Picnic Areas
Plano is a great place to enjoy the outdoors, and there are plenty of parks and nature activities that you can take advantage of. From fishing spots and hiking trails to a historic museum, there’s something for everyone.
Haggard Park is a great choice for picnics, as it includes amenities such as a large playground and gazebo. It also has a short paved trail that winds between towering oak, ash, and pecan trees. The park is also home to the Interurban Railway Museum, making it an interesting destination for the entire family.
Another great picnic spot in Plano is Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. This huge park features over 9 miles of paved and natural trails that are perfect for hiking and biking.
4. Playgrounds
When traveling with children, you want to ensure that there are plenty of activities to keep them busy. Plano is a great place for families, with tasty barbecue joints, top-quality museums, and many other family-friendly activities.
A fun attraction for kids is the Crayola Experience, which is a kid-friendly destination where they can learn about how crayons are made and do some fun crayon art, like melting them to create different designs. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon and you can treat the kids to some new Crayola merch afterward.
Liberty Park is a playground that’s far from ordinary, with one of its most unique features being an M41-A3 Walker Bulldog tank. The park also includes a play structure and swings for children of all ages.
5. Water Features
Bob Woodruff Park features several recreational options for Plano residents. There is a playground, volleyball court, fishing pier, and hard-surface trails for both walking and biking. The park also hosts a variety of outdoor fitness classes.
This park is also home to the Interurban Railway Museum, which provides a great opportunity to learn about the history of trains in Texas. The museum is located at the Bob Woodruff Park North entrance.
The park also has a splash pad, which is a fun way to cool off on a hot day. The splash pad is made of concrete and has a lot of different spray features to keep kids entertained.
